You Don't Have to Keep Going Through the Motions

Online Depression Therapy in Texas

Depression doesn't always look like sadness. Sometimes it looks like going through the motions — showing up to work, taking care of the kids, checking the boxes — while feeling hollow underneath. Sometimes it's a flatness that settles in so gradually you barely notice it until you realize you can't remember the last time something felt genuinely good. However it shows up for you, it's real, and it doesn't have to stay that way.

At Bloom Within Counseling, I offer secure professional online therapy for teens and adults throughout Texas, with a focus on evidence-based depression treatment. Sessions are held entirely via telehealth — no commute, no waiting room, no geographic barrier. Whatever part of Texas you're in, quality depression support is available to you here.

When Getting There Is Half the Battle

Why Online Depression Therapy Works

One of the cruelest features of depression is that it makes the things that would help — leaving the house, keeping appointments, showing up consistently — feel nearly impossible. The thought of driving across town, finding parking, and sitting in a waiting room can be enough to cancel an appointment before it even happens. Online therapy removes every one of those barriers. You connect from home, or wherever you have a few minutes of privacy, on a schedule that actually fits your life.

That consistency matters more than most people realize. Depression treatment works best when it happens regularly, and telehealth makes it significantly easier to actually show up week after week. Research consistently supports telehealth as effective for depression, with outcomes comparable to in-person care for major depressive disorder and persistent depressive disorder.

All sessions at Bloom Within Counseling use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform — no app downloads, no new accounts to set up. You receive a private link before each appointment and join from wherever works best for you.

What Bloom Within Can Help With

I work with adolescents and adults throughout Texas who are experiencing depression in many different forms, including:

  • Major depressive disorder and persistent depressive disorder
  • Depression alongside anxiety, burnout, or life transitions
  • Depression rooted in trauma or past adverse experiences
  • Grief that has become stuck or complicated
  • Postpartum depression and perinatal mood concerns
  • Burnout — chronic exhaustion and emotional disengagement from prolonged stress
  • Teen depression — including irritability, academic decline, and social withdrawal

You don't need to be at crisis level for depression to warrant professional support. If you've been feeling persistently low, empty, or disengaged from your own life, that's enough reason to reach out. Learn more about our depression therapy services.

Meet Melanie Burns, LPC - Associate

Licensed Professional Counselor Associate | Supervised by April West, LPC-S

I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate under the supervision of April West, LPC-S. I founded Bloom Within Counseling to make quality mental health care more accessible to adolescents and adults throughout Texas, regardless of where they live.

I have more than 10 years of experience working with adolescents and adults, and my approach to depression is supportive, practical, and collaborative. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Somatic Therapy, and supportive approaches, tailoring our work to what you’re experiencing rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. Together, we’ll work to better understand what may be contributing to your depression, strengthen coping skills, and create meaningful, sustainable change.

All sessions are held through secure, HIPAA-compliant Zoom. I provide virtual therapy to clients throughout Texas, from rural communities and small towns to major metropolitan areas.

Licensure

Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-Associate) in the State of Texas, supervised by April West, LPC-S.

Specialized Training

Somatic therapy focuses on the connection between the mind and body, helping clients notice physical responses to stress and emotions while learning strategies to feel more regulated, grounded, and safe.

Therapeutic Modalities

I draw from several evidence-based frameworks to tailor care to what's actually driving each client's depression:

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) —
EFT helps you understand emotions, identify underlying needs, and build healthier patterns of connection and communication.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) — Identifying and shifting the thought patterns and behaviors that sustain depression
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) — Emotional regulation and distress tolerance for depression tied to emotional intensity or chronic emptiness
  • Narrative Therapy — Examining the self-critical stories depression creates and rebuilding a more accurate, compassionate self-perception

What People Ask Before Getting Started

Frequently Asked Questions About Online Depression Therapy

Yes. Research consistently supports online therapy as effective for depression, with outcomes comparable to in-person care for major depressive disorder and persistent depressive disorder. For many people, the reduced barrier of telehealth — no commute, sessions from home — makes it easier to show up consistently, which matters enormously in depression treatment.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the most extensively researched treatment for depression. DBT skills are particularly valuable when depression is tied to emotional intensity or chronic emptiness. I tailor the approach to what is actually driving each client's depression.
Burnout is a state of chronic exhaustion caused by prolonged stress and typically has a more identifiable situational cause. Clinical depression is more pervasive, affects more areas of life, and typically requires professional treatment rather than rest alone. The two frequently co-occur, and both are treatable through therapy.
Yes. Long-term or chronic depression can respond to therapy, though it often benefits from a multi-modal approach. Therapy can help identify longstanding patterns, address underlying experiences that may contribute to depression, and build new ways of coping and responding. Approaches such as CBT, DBT, somatic therapy, and trauma-informed care can be tailored to each client's individual needs and experiences.
Yes. I work with adolescents. Teen depression often presents differently than adult depression — with irritability, academic decline, and physical complaints rather than obvious sadness — and requires an approach that accounts for developmental context and the social pressures adolescents face.
Yes, most major insurances are accepted. Private pay is also available.
All of Texas. I provide virtual therapy to clients throughout the state, including rural communities, small towns, and major metro areas such as Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and Waco. As long as you’re located in Texas at the time of your session, we can meet through telehealth.
Simple. Low-Pressure. On Your Terms.

What to Expect In Your First Session

Starting therapy can feel uncertain, especially when depression is making everything harder. Here’s what the process looks like at Bloom Within Counseling:

  • Book a Session: Use the button to choose an appointment time that works with your schedule.
  • Intake: Complete required intake forms, review and sign consent documents, and provide insurance and payment information prior to your first session.
  • First session: I will ask questions, listen, and begin to understand what’s driving your depression and what you’re hoping to work toward.
  • Ongoing sessions: Typically 50 minutes, held weekly or biweekly depending on your needs and schedule. All conducted via secure video link.

Depression makes everything feel harder, including reaching out. You don’t need to feel motivated to make the first move — you just need to make it.
