Healing Doesn't Have to Happen Alone

Group Therapy for Teens & Adults in Texas

One of the most powerful moments in therapy happens when someone realizes — for the first time, maybe — that they're not the only one who feels the way they feel. That the shame, the anxiety, the sense of being stuck isn't unique to them. Group therapy makes that moment possible in a way that individual sessions simply can't. When people share a space with others who genuinely understand their experience, something shifts. Connection itself becomes part of the healing.

Bloom Within Counseling's Growth Programs are small, carefully guided groups designed to help teens and adults build real skills, find genuine support, and grow in ways that individual therapy accelerates but community deepens. This isn't a "lesser than" option — it's a different and often more powerful way to work through what's holding you back.

What Makes Group Therapy Different

Individual therapy gives you focused, one-on-one attention. Group therapy gives you something individual sessions can’t — the lived experience of others who are navigating similar struggles, and the real-time practice of skills in a social setting. In a Growth Program, you can:

  • Feel genuinely less alone in what you’re going through
  • Learn from other people’s experiences and perspectives, not just your own
  • Practice communication, boundary-setting, and coping skills in real time
  • Build confidence and connection in a space that’s safe and structured
  • Receive and offer support — both of which accelerate growth
  • Access consistent weekly support at a more accessible cost than individual therapy

Many clients find that group therapy moves them forward in ways they didn’t expect — not despite the group setting, but because of it.

Bloom Within's Growth Programs

Each Growth Program is intentionally structured to balance support, skill-building, and reflection. Groups are kept small to ensure every participant feels seen and heard — not lost in a crowd. All groups are facilitated by Melanie Burns, LPC-Associate, using evidence-based approaches including CBT, DBT, and Narrative Therapy. The American Psychological Association recognizes group therapy as a highly effective treatment format for anxiety, depression, life transitions, and interpersonal challenges.

Teen Growth Groups

Adolescence is hard in ways that adults often underestimate — and teens are navigating it with more pressure, more noise, and less margin than previous generations. Teen Growth Groups provide a structured, judgment-free space where young people can be honest about what they're experiencing and build the tools to actually handle it.

Teen groups focus on:

  • Managing anxiety, stress, and emotional overwhelm
  • Building self-esteem and confidence
  • Navigating friendships, peer pressure, and boundaries
  • Developing healthy coping skills for real-life situations
  • Finding community with peers who genuinely understand

Groups are organized by developmental stage to ensure age-appropriate conversation and peer connection:

  • Middle School Group — for students in grades 6–8
  • High School Group — for students in grades 9–12

Adult Growth Groups

Stress, anxiety, life transitions, and the quiet sense of being stuck are far more common than most adults admit — partly because adult life doesn't make much room to say so. Adult Growth Groups offer a structured, confidential space to do exactly that, alongside others who are in similar seasons of life.

Adult groups focus on:

  • Managing anxiety, overwhelm, and chronic stress
  • Emotional regulation and practical coping skills
  • Identity, purpose, and navigating major life transitions
  • Building healthier relationships and clearer boundaries
  • Processing what's been hard without having to carry it alone

You don't have to have everything figured out to benefit from a Growth Program. You just have to be willing to show up.

For clients already working with Melanie individually, Growth Programs can complement individual therapy by providing a community dimension that deepens and reinforces the work happening one-on-one.

What to Expect in Group Therapy

Before You Join

Before being placed in a group, Melanie will have a brief conversation with you to understand your goals, assess fit, and determine which group is the right match. Groups are carefully curated to ensure a safe, cohesive dynamic — so this step matters. There's no pressure during this conversation; it's simply a chance to make sure the group will genuinely serve you.

In The Group

Sessions are facilitated by Melanie and structured to balance guided discussion, practical skill-building, and space for honest reflection. Every session has a focus, but there's always room for what's actually coming up for participants that week. Groups are kept intentionally small so that every member has space to participate and feels genuinely part of the community — not an observer in the back of a room.

Between Sessions

Growth doesn't pause when the session ends. Melanie may share tools, reflections, or short practices to carry into the week — things that reinforce what was worked on in the group and help participants apply new skills in the real situations they're navigating day to day.

Your Investment In Yourself

Growth Programs are priced at a lower rate per session than individual therapy, making them a meaningful and more accessible way to receive consistent, professional support. Group therapy also offers something individual sessions can’t put a price on — the experience of being truly understood by people who are walking a similar path.

Exact rates and current group schedules are shared upon inquiry. To ask about availability or get more information, send a message or call (254) 390-9243.

Group Therapy FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

It can be — it depends on the person and what they're working through. Some people find group therapy to be a more approachable entry point than individual sessions; others prefer to start one-on-one before joining a group. Melanie will talk through this with you before placement to make sure the format is genuinely a good fit for where you are right now.
You share what you're comfortable sharing, at a pace that feels right for you. Group facilitators set clear guidelines for confidentiality and respectful participation, and no one is ever required to disclose more than they're ready to. Most participants find that the sense of safety grows quickly once they realize others in the group are navigating similar experiences.
Yes — and for many clients, this combination is particularly effective. Individual therapy provides focused, personalized work; group therapy provides community, connection, and real-time skill practice. The two formats complement each other well. If you're already working with Melanie individually, talk with her about whether adding a Growth Program makes sense for your goals.
Melanie, as the facilitator, maintains the same professional confidentiality obligations that apply in individual therapy. Group members are also asked to commit to confidentiality as a condition of participation — what's shared in the group stays in the group. While Melanie cannot guarantee the behavior of other participants, confidentiality expectations are clearly established and reinforced throughout the group.
Yes. All Growth Programs are held via secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth — available to participants anywhere in Texas. The virtual format makes it easier to show up consistently without the barrier of travel, and it opens group participation to clients in rural areas who might not otherwise have access to this kind of structured peer support.
Group availability, schedules, and current pricing are shared upon inquiry. The best way to get details is to send a message on our contact page, or call (254) 390-9243. Melanie will get back to you within 1–2 business days with current information and next steps.
